Computational Fluid Dynamics

Critical Systems Testing provides computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis for simulating cooling performance of data centers. By applying state-of-the-art CFD techniques to both raised-floor and non-raised-floor data centers, CST can provide a broader range of energy efficiency services within the data center and outside the data center into the central plant.

CST uses the simulation tool TileFlow provided by Innovative Research, Inc. It has a wide range of 3-D modeling capabilities to understand temperature, airflow and pressure issues on the data center floor. Those capabilities include:

• Modeling distribution of rack inlet temperatures
• Modeling a “temperature fog” showing hot and cold regions within the data center space
• Modeling of airflow patterns and temperatures at infinite elevations in the computer room
• Modeling airflow paths indicating hot-air recirculation and short-cycling of cold air
• Modeling the uniformity in the airflow rates through floor and overhead diffusers
• Modeling of the pressure distribution and airflow pattern under the raised floor
